Thoughts From a Former Homeschool Mom

From Summer to Summer?
Well, here we are. It’s officially fall. As I take a gigantic sigh and prepare my teapot for the wintry days ahead, I say a final farewell to summer. Thanks. It was a great ride!
It was the first summer in a long time that we didn’t pack the days full. We just simply enjoyed the warm days at home. We gardened. We swam. We had bonfires. We swam. We spent time with family. And we swam some more.
The pool is now closed. The garden is winding down. Sweatshirts are emerging from closets. One season’s ending is another season’s beginning.
In the Book of Ecclesiastes, King Solomon compares major moments in our lives to the changing seasons of nature. It's one of the things we can be sure of, change.
Gracie seems to be living in the summer of her life. She is loving public school. (I have chosen not to take offense.) She has gotten involved in clubs and activities. Homeschool was for a season, and now we are onto the next.
Although I wouldn’t say I feel like I am experiencing winter, I do feel like I’m between seasons. My summer season ended, but I don’t think I am on the verge of experiencing fall. With this new season in my life comes uncertainty, but not despair.
Is it possible to go from summer to summer?
I think so. God can take us from glory to glory, from height to height (2 Corinthians 3:18). So why not summer to summer.
One of my life verses is Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
Just because summer may be over in one part of my life doesn’t mean I have to experience fall or winter. God can take me into a different type of summer. I fully trust Him to take me from the season of homeschooling to another good season. One that can be used to glorify Him and the purpose He has for me.
I appreciate the availability I still have to be home in the mornings and afternoons with Gracie. Although our conversations aren’t all day, when we are together the lines of communication are open. And does she ever use them…
I thank God for the many years we had to lay the foundation for what was ahead. The countless conversations, laughter, and frustrations that helped us grow our relationship. Our days look different, but our relationship has not changed.
Lord, I pray for the person who is reading this. They may feel like a summer season in their life is ending. I pray that You take away any uncertainty or anxiousness. Fill them with Your peace. Let them know that You have a perfect plan for their good. In Jesus Holy name, Amen.
